The Triunity of God:

The Functions of the Holy Spirit

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away,

the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. John 16:7

This multi-part series offers a better understanding of the Triune God: God the Father, God the Son and God the Father.

While the Trinity is difficult to comprehend, for it is a doctrine from God and not of man's creation, the Bible offers much information about the Trinity and significantly, does reveal much in terms of the functions of the Three Persons in One.

Join us, as we develope an in-depth study of this very important subject as it related to our personal lives.

Often misunderstood, this video begins a new series of studies on the function of the Holy Spirit within the Triune God. Focusing on the teaching of John 14, Dr. Congdon explains the meaning of the Comforter, the Parakletes, Who is the Holy Spirit.

Here you will come to a fuller understanding of what it means to "comfort" (no, not the meaning that first comes to your mind) and "abide" within every true believer. In John 14, the Lord offers four assurances of help to all believer through the work of the Holy Spirit.

The Parakletes - the Holy Spirit is our Strength

Sealed with the Holy Spirit

In a very insecure and unpredictable world, believers in the Lord Jesus Christ possess within themselves the only true security and peace that is available—the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

How can we know for certain that our future is secure? That certainty is guaranteed by God the Father through His gift of the “seal” of the Holy Spirit. Though seldom taught, it is vitally important for every believer to understand how and why this seal guarantees our future inheritance as joint heirs with Christ.

The greatest need for every individual is to trust Jesus Christ as personal Savior. The Holy Spirit of God then enters into the new believer and permanently dwells within him or her as a seal or promise of future redemption and glorification of the body. Although the Spirit will always reside with the believer, offering comfort and spiritual guidance, the greatest need of the Christian is to “abide” in Christ by yielding control to the Holy Spirit’ leading. This is a daily act of the will for every believer. The filling of the Holy Spirit allows the Spirit to guide the thoughts, speech, attitudes, conduct, and labors—in response to certain conditions met by the believer.

Part 2 of this series will explain how to “meet” these conditions by walking with the Spirit, in total dependence upon Him.

What is the Filling of the Holy Spirit

The greatest need of the Christian is to “abide” in Christ by being filled/controlled by the Holy Spirit for life and service to the Lord. The Bible does not give specific steps to take to be filled. Instead, it teaches a believer the principles of how to have a consistent walk with the Spirit.

Unlike the Holy Spirit permanent indwelling within the true believer at salvation; walking and being controlled by the Spirit is a minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour, day-by-day choice by the believer to yield to the Spirit and to depend upon His direction and leading. Being lead by the Spirit is not automatic, it takes a conscious effort by a believer, who must learn to walk with and talk with the Spirit. Please join us now to learn how.
